BEFORE YOU TRAVEL
To help your trip go smoothly, please review the most important travel information before departure.
Arriving on time, bringing the right identification, and reviewing ferry policies in advance will help ensure a safe and efficient boarding process.

- Vehicle space is limited
- Valid photo ID required for passengers age 18 and older

TRAVEL INFORMATION & POLICIES

To ensure safe and efficient boarding, all passengers and vehicles must be ticketed and ready to board at least 1 hour before departure.
Hollis Terminal: Please arrive and check in by 7:00 AM for the 8:00 AM departure.
Ketchikan Terminal: Please arrive and check in by 2:30 PM for the 3:30 PM departure.Failure to comply with check-in times may result in the loss of your reserved space and denial of boarding.

If you are traveling with a vehicle from Ketchikan to Hollis, you are required to:
- Check in at the Ketchikan Terminal before boarding
- Pick up your boarding tickets and receive your lane assignment from terminal staff
- Display your lane assignment in your vehicle window where it is clearly visible to loading crews
This helps ensure an organized and efficient loading process for all passengers.

A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all passengers aged 18 and older. The Inter-Island Ferry Authority does not require a Real ID for travel.
Accepted forms of ID include:
- State-issued ID or Driver’s License
- TWIC Card
- Photo Tribal ID
- School or University ID
- Employee Photo ID
- Merchant Mariner’s Credential
- Passport or Passport Card
- Armed Forces / Military ID
If you are traveling with a vehicle, a valid state-issued Driver’s License is required to board.
Passengers ages 16–17 traveling without an adult must present valid photo identification.

Passengers ages 12–15 traveling without an adult must complete an Unaccompanied Minor Form prior to travel.
Passengers ages 16–17 traveling alone only need to present a valid photo ID at boarding.

Walk-on passengers may bring hand luggage weighing up to 100 pounds per person.
Important reminders:
- Fish boxes do not count toward the 100-pound luggage limit and are subject to separate fish box fees and policies
- There are no weight restrictions for luggage transported inside vehicles
- Passengers are responsible for loading and unloading their own luggage, including placing it on and off the IFA luggage carts
- All luggage is subject to security screening
- Unaccompanied luggage is not allowed and will be confiscated if found unattended
For everyone’s safety and comfort, please keep your luggage with you until it is loaded on board.

Pets
Pets are welcome aboard. During the voyage, all pets must remain on the vehicle deck for safety reasons.
Pet Travel Guidelines:
- Pets must be secured inside your vehicle or in a sturdy pet carrier
- Please bring your own pet carrier
- Bring food, water, and comfort items for your pet as needed
Service Animals
Service animals are welcome aboard in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- No additional fees are charged
- Service animals must remain under control and on a leash or tethering system unless disability prevents it
- Emotional support animals are not considered service animals under this policy

Both IFA terminals and vessel restrooms are wheelchair accessible, and all IFA vessels are designed to meet ADA requirements.
Accessibility features include:
- Elevator access from the vehicle deck to the main passenger deck
- Wheelchair-accessible hallways, lounges, and galley seating
- ADA-compliant restroom on the main deck
- Wheelchairs available for passenger use as needed
Passengers may also bring personal wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility aids on board.
If you arranged special accommodations during your reservation, please notify the terminal agent upon arrival.
Quiet Room:
A Quiet Room is available for passengers who are ill, injured, or need privacy for a medical condition. The room accommodates up to two passengers and must be requested prior to boarding. Use is subject to availability and Captain approval.If you have questions or need special accommodations, please contact 866-308-4848 before your travel date.

Important safety and security information:
- Verbal safety announcements are provided at the start of every voyage
- Written safety instructions are posted throughout the vessel
- Vehicles and baggage may be subject to search before boarding
- Passengers age 18 and older must present valid photo ID
- Additional security measures may be implemented as required by current maritime security conditions
MARSEC Level:
The current U.S. Coast Guard MARSEC level is MARSEC I.If you have questions about onboard safety or security procedures, please ask a crew member or call 866-308-4848.

For everyone’s safety, certain materials are prohibited on IFA vessels.
Prohibited items include:
- Explosives
- Highly flammable materials
- Corrosive substances
Allowed quantities for transport must remain in your vehicle and include:
- Up to 30 gallons of gasoline
- Up to 55 gallons of diesel or bar oil
- A reasonable amount of helium
- Up to 10 gallons of propane
- Up to 11 pounds of fireworks in original packaging, stored in your vehicle

Vehicle Deck Access
Passengers are not allowed on the vehicle deck while the vessel is underway. If access is needed, you must be escorted by a uniformed IFA employee.Marijuana
Marijuana is strictly prohibited on all IFA vessels and terminals. Federal law governs maritime transportation, and passengers found in possession or under the influence may be denied boarding.Smoking
Smoking, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vapes, is only permitted in designated outdoor areas away from doorways.Seating Courtesy
Please be courteous when choosing your seat. Lounge seating should not be reserved for belongings, and galley seating is intended for passengers who are dining. -
Passengers can enjoy a comfortable trip with a variety of onboard amenities.
Onboard features include:
- Indoor passenger seating
- Restrooms
- Café service with hot meals, snacks, desserts, and ice cream
- G-rated movies available during the voyage – Finding Nemo, Despicable Me (I, II, III, IV), Incredibles (I, II), Toy Story (I, II, III, IV), Super Mario Bros, Monsters Inc, Zootopia, Up,
- Scenic viewing opportunities, including the solarium aboard the M/V Stikine
