How to Get to Prince of Wales Island

Prince of Wales Island is not accessible by road. Most visitors arrive through Ketchikan and continue by ferry.

GETTING HERE IS SIMPLE

Step 1

Travel to Ketchikan

Fly into Ketchikan International Airport from Seattle or other Alaska communities. Travelers can also arrive by ferry through the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), including routes that allow vehicle transport from other parts of Alaska and Washington.

Step 2

Reach the Ferry Terminal

If you’re flying into Ketchikan, take the airport ferry from the airport side to the Ketchikan side. The airport ferry operates daily from 6:15 AM to 9:30 PM, departing the airport on the hour and half hour, and departing town on the quarter and three-quarter hour.

Once in town, it’s a short walk or cab ride (about half a mile) to the Inter-Island Ferry Authority terminal.

If you’re arriving by Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS), simply walk into the terminal and follow signs to the Inter-Island Ferry Authority desk in the shared terminal space.

Step 3

Take the Ferry to Hollis

Board the Inter-Island Ferry Authority for a scenic trip across Clarence Strait to Prince of Wales Island.
