YOUR TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Your wages are only one part of your compensation. The IFA’s benefits package may include employer contributions toward health coverage, retirement, insurance, paid leave, and ferry travel privileges.

The medical plan has a $2,000 individual or $4,000 family deductible. The IFA also provides a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) that reimburses eligible deductible expenses up to:
- $1,200 per year for individual coverage
- $2,400 per year for family coverage
Additional plan features include:
- Preventive care covered at 100%, with no deductible
- A $3,000 individual or $6,000 family out-of-pocket maximum for most covered in-network expenses
- In-network doctor, specialist, urgent care, and emergency services covered at 80% after the deductible
- Access to Teladoc medical consultations
The IFA pays 100% of the premium for eligible employee coverage and 50% of the premium for eligible spouse and dependent coverage. Employees are responsible for the remaining 50% of elected spouse and dependent coverage.
Benefits are subject to eligibility requirements and the terms, limitations, and exclusions of the applicable medical plan and HRA documents.
Flexible Spending Account
Eligible employees may enroll in a Flexible Spending Account administered by Navia Benefit Solutions. Employees can set aside pre-tax money through payroll deductions to pay for eligible expenses, including:
- Medical, dental, vision, prescription, and other qualifying health care expenses
- Eligible dependent care expenses, such as childcare
The FSA can be used alongside the IFA-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement, subject to applicable plan rules.
Participation is voluntary. Contribution limits, eligible expenses, enrollment requirements, and reimbursement rules are governed by the current plan documents.

Retirement Benefits
Eligible IFA employees participate in two employer-supported retirement plans after completing the applicable probationary period.
Public Employees’ Retirement System
Most newly enrolled employees participate in the Alaska PERS Defined Contribution Retirement Plan:
- Employees contribute 8% of eligible compensation.
- The IFA contributes an additional 5%.
- Employees always own their contributions.
- Employer contributions become fully vested after five years of service.

Supplemental Annuity Plan
The Alaska Supplemental Annuity Plan replaces Social Security participation for eligible IFA employees:
- Employees contribute 6.13% of eligible wages.
- The IFA provides a matching 6.13% contribution.
- Contributions are made before taxes and invested for retirement.

Optional Deferred Compensation
Employees may save additional money through the State of Alaska’s voluntary 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plan. The plan allows eligible employees to choose pre-tax contributions, Roth contributions, or a combination of both. View the 457(b) Plan Highlights.
Retirement eligibility, contributions, vesting, and benefits are governed by the applicable plan documents. Previous Alaska public employment may affect an employee’s PERS plan or tier.

Eligible IFA employees receive employer-paid basic life, dependent life, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance.
Employees may also purchase additional coverage through the State of Alaska’s Voluntary Supplemental Benefits program, including:
- Select and supplemental life insurance
- Spouse and child life insurance
- Supplemental accidental death and dismemberment insurance
- Short-term disability insurance
- Long-term disability insurance
- Critical illness insurance
These voluntary options allow employees to choose the protection and coverage levels that best fit their needs. Premiums are paid by the employee through payroll deductions.

Vacation and Sick Leave
- Vessel employees accrue 12 hours of vacation leave and 12 hours of sick leave each month.
- Full-time shoreside employees accrue 8 hours of vacation leave and 8 hours of sick leave each month.
Service-Based Vacation Leave
Employees receive additional vacation leave on their employment anniversary. The award equals one vacation day for each completed year of service, recognizing employees’ continued commitment to the IFA.
Paid Holidays
Eligible employees receive:
- Eight paid holidays each year
- One floating holiday, credited each January 1
Leave accrual, use, eligibility, and holiday benefits are governed by IFA policies and applicable employment agreements.

Travel privileges may include:
- Space-available travel for the employee
- Travel for qualifying family members
- Transportation of qualifying vehicles
- Plus-One travel privileges for an eligible guest
This distinctive benefit gives employees and their families more opportunities to travel between Prince of Wales Island and Ketchikan.
Travel benefits are subject to eligibility requirements, space availability, reservation procedures, vehicle restrictions, and current IFA policies.

Employee Assistance Program
Employees and members of their households have access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program through Magellan Healthcare. Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at no cost to the employee.
The program includes:
- Up to three counseling sessions for each personal concern
- Support for stress, anxiety, grief, relationships, and other challenges
- Work-life resources for childcare, eldercare, education, parenting, and daily needs
- Financial coaching and identity-theft resolution assistance
- An initial legal consultation at no cost, with discounted rates for continued legal services
- Personal coaching and online resilience programs
EAP services are confidential and provided by an independent third party. Program services and eligibility are subject to the current plan terms.
Uniform Reimbursement
Eligible employees may receive up to $225 each year toward approved uniform expenses.
Meals for Vessel Crew
Vessel crew members receive two galley meals while working their scheduled shift.
Licensing and Professional Development
The IFA invests in the people who keep our vessels operating safely. Approved education and training expenses associated with required professional licensing may be covered by the IFA, helping employees obtain or maintain the credentials needed for their positions.
